Profile
The Corpse Reviver family goes back to the 1800s, when these drinks were meant as “hair of the dog” hangover cures strong enough to raise the dead. This version is a lesser-known member of the family, stirring brandy with crème de menthe and a bracing measure of Fernet-Branca. It is not to be confused with the better-known gin-based Corpse Reviver No. 2.
It is a bold, after-dinner kind of drink. The brandy gives it a rich, warm base, the crème de menthe adds cool mint and sweetness, and the Fernet brings a deep, herbal bitterness that ties it all together. Think of it as a more grown-up Stinger with a bitter backbone, ideal for sipping slowly once dinner is done.
Glass: Cocktail glass | Strength: Strong | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 3 minutes
Bartenders tip: Stir, do not shake. It is all spirits, so stirring keeps it silky and clear. White crème de menthe keeps the drink a deep amber, while green will turn it a murky color that suits Halloween but hides the brandy. Fernet is intense, so resist the urge to add more until you have tried it as written.
