Profile
Plenty O’Toole takes its name from the memorably named Bond girl in Diamonds Are Forever, the 1971 film where she gets about as much screen time as the joke in her name allows. The drink is better developed than the character: Frangelico, Irish whiskey and Irish cream, shaken and poured over broken ice in an old-fashioned glass. It is smooth, sweet and dangerously easy to drink.
Think of it as a nutty, boozier take on Irish cream on the rocks. The Irish cream brings chocolate and cream, Frangelico adds toasted hazelnut and vanilla, and the Irish whiskey gives it enough backbone that the sweetness never takes over. With three full ounces of liquor and liqueur, it is stronger than its dessert-like flavor suggests, so it works best as an after-dinner drink rather than something to sip all night.
Glass: Old-fashioned glass | Strength: Medium | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 2 minutes
Bartenders tip: Shake it hard with plenty of ice so the cream gets cold and a little frothy, then strain over fresh broken ice. A smooth, unpeated Irish whiskey like Jameson or Tullamore D.E.W. keeps it mellow. Irish cream keeps for a while after opening but not forever, so if your bottle has thickened or smells sour, it is time for a new one.
