Profile
The Pick-Me-Up is a champagne cocktail with some backbone, brandy and a splash of lemon juice go into the shaker first, then the whole thing gets topped with champagne right before serving. Angostura bitters and a dash of grenadine round out the color and flavor without turning it sweet. It’s a little more assertive than a straight champagne cocktail thanks to the brandy base, but still light enough to drink before a meal.
The name fits: it’s brisk, a little tart, and the bubbles do a lot of the work.
Glass: Champagne flute | Strength: Medium | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 3 minutes
Bartender’s tip: Shake the brandy, lemon juice, sugar syrup, bitters, and grenadine hard before adding the champagne, that’s where all the chilling and dilution happens. Add the champagne last and pour it gently down the side of the glass so you don’t lose the fizz.
