Profile
The Pink Banana is two ingredients and no technique. An ounce of banana liqueur, five ounces of pink lemonade, poured over ice in a tall glass in whatever order you get to them. It is a highball, and the only reason it has a name is the color.
Banana and lemon is a better pairing than it sounds. The tartness of the lemonade cuts the syrupy quality that makes creme de bananes hard to drink on its own, and the banana in turn rounds off the sharp edge of the lemonade. Five to one is a long ratio, so this is a light drink meant for a hot afternoon rather than anything serious.
Glass: Collins glass | Strength: Light | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 2 minutes
Bartenders tip: Half-filling the glass with ice rather than packing it is deliberate, since five ounces of mixer needs the room. Use a tart pink lemonade rather than a sweet one, because there is already an ounce of liqueur bringing sugar and the drink goes cloying fast. A squeeze of fresh lemon sharpens the whole thing up for no effort. If you want it to have any real strength, an ounce of white rum slots in without disturbing the flavor at all.
Steps
- Pour the creme de bananes into a Collins glass half-filled with ice.
- Add the pink lemonade, stir, and serve.
