Pink lemonade and a half ounce of bright green melon liqueur do not produce a pink drink. They produce something murky and orange-leaning, which is either a flaw or exactly right depending on how literally you take the name.
Midori is the interesting choice in an otherwise plain vodka lemonade. It is intensely sweet and tastes of honeydew rather than any melon you would recognize from a fruit bowl, and a half ounce is enough to shift the whole drink without taking it over. What is harder to defend is the two tablespoons of sugar, which is a lot of sweetener to add to lemonade that already has plenty.
Glass: Highball glass | Strength: Medium | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 3 minutes
Bartenders tip: Cut the sugar or skip it entirely. Between the lemonade and the Midori this drink has all the sweetness it can carry, and two tablespoons pushes it well past pleasant. If you do use it, stir until it has fully dissolved or it will sit gritty at the bottom of the glass. Granulated sugar barely dissolves in a cold drink, so simple syrup is the better vehicle if you want the sweetness. A squeeze of fresh lime pulls the whole thing back into balance.
Steps
- Add all ingredients to a highball glass filled with ice.
