Profile
Rum with both lemon and lime in it is less common than it sounds. Most rum sours pick one, usually lime, and the Pink n Tart uses a tablespoon of each, which gives it a broader citrus profile than a daiquiri and justifies the second half of the name.
Lemon and lime are not interchangeable. Lime is sharper and more aromatic, lemon rounder and more straightforwardly sour, and using both gives a sourness with more shape to it than either alone. Against an ounce and a half of white rum and only a teaspoon and a half of grenadine, this stays genuinely tart, which is rarer than it should be among drinks with grenadine in them.
Glass: Old-fashioned glass | Strength: Medium | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 3 minutes
Bartenders tip: The recipe offers a choice, shaken and strained up or stirred over ice in a rocks glass, and the rocks version is the better one here. The dilution suits a drink this sharp and it keeps the citrus from hitting all at once. Both juices should be fresh, since an ounce of bottled citrus is exactly where a drink like this falls apart. If it is too tart for you the fix is a little more grenadine rather than less juice, which keeps the balance the name promises.
Steps
- Fill an old-fashioned glass halfway with ice.
- Add the rum, lemon juice, lime juice and grenadine.
