Profile
There is no mystery about where this one got its name. Mountain Dew poured over a glass full of ice turns a shade of yellow that anyone who has walked a dog in January will recognize. Add vodka and peppermint schnapps and you have the Piss in the Snow, a drink that commits to the joke a little harder than strictly necessary.
What it actually tastes like is citrus soda with a cold blast of mint. The schnapps does most of the work, giving it a candy-cane chill that suits a winter drink, while the vodka quietly adds strength without changing the flavor much. The Dew brings the sugar and the fizz. It is sweet, loud and very much a party drink, the kind that gets ordered for the name and finished because it goes down easily.
Glass: Highball glass | Strength: Medium | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 2 minutes
Bartenders tip: Chill the vodka and schnapps ahead of time, as the original recipe suggests, so the ice lasts longer and the soda keeps its fizz. The original names Avalanche schnapps, but any peppermint schnapps works. Check the bottle’s strength, since some peppermint schnapps run as high as 100 proof. If you want to use a whole can of Dew, switch to a pint glass and add a little more of each spirit.
Steps
- Fill a highball glass with ice.
- Add the chilled vodka and peppermint schnapps.
