The Platina Blonde is about as simple as a cream drink gets: tequila and heavy cream, stirred together right in a cocktail glass. It is the tequila cousin of the Platinum Blonde that sits next to it in our archive, and the name most likely comes from the pale, creamy color in the glass.
Two ingredients means there is nothing to hide behind. The cream softens tequila’s bite and rounds its peppery, vegetal edge into something smooth and almost dessert-like, though it stays drier than most cream cocktails since there is no liqueur or sugar involved. A good blanco keeps it clean and bright, while a reposado adds a little vanilla and oak that suits the cream well.

Bartenders tip: The original recipe builds it without ice, so chill the glass, the tequila and the cream well beforehand. For a colder, frothier drink, shake both with ice and strain into the glass instead. If it tastes too sharp, a quarter ounce of agave syrup takes the edge off.
