Profile
The Pineapple Monyca has no base spirit at all. Triple sec and peach schnapps are both liqueurs, which means the whole drink is built on sugar, and the pineapple juice and Sprite are along to make that palatable rather than to add anything of their own.
That construction turns up constantly in late night drinks written for whatever was already open behind the bar. It also makes this deceptively easy to drink, because two ounces of triple sec and two of schnapps land somewhere near a strong cocktail in alcohol while tasting like fruit punch. The peach and pineapple sit close enough together that neither one dominates.
Glass: Collins glass | Strength: Medium | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 2 minutes
Bartenders tip: Build it over a full glass of ice and let the dilution do real work, since there is nothing dry in this recipe to balance the sugar. A squeeze of fresh lemon or lime cuts through it and costs you nothing. If you want it to taste less like candy, drop the triple sec to an ounce and add an ounce of vodka, which gives the drink a spine without changing the flavor much. The Sprite goes in last so it keeps its fizz.
Steps
- Fill a Collins glass with ice.
- Pour in the pineapple juice, triple sec and peach schnapps.
- Top with Sprite, stir briefly, and serve.
