Profile
The Pineapple Snap runs three ounces of clear spirit under five ounces of pineapple juice and trusts the fruit to do the covering. Vodka, orange vodka and triple sec means the only real flavor in the spirit half is orange, which pineapple happens to sit very comfortably next to.
The method is slightly unusual. Most drinks like this get built in the glass or shaken all together, but here the spirits are shaken on their own and the juice goes in afterward. Shaking the clear liquor first chills and dilutes it, then the juice arrives unbruised and keeps its body. It is a small distinction and probably an accident of how the recipe was written down, but it does produce a cleaner looking drink than shaking pineapple juice into a froth.
Glass: Highball glass | Strength: Medium | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 3 minutes
Bartenders tip: The orange vodka is doing more work than it looks like, so do not swap it for plain and call it even. If you do not have any, an extra half ounce of triple sec and a strip of orange peel gets you most of the way. Five ounces of juice is generous against three of spirit, which makes this an easy drinker rather than a strong one. Use unsweetened pineapple juice if you can find it, since the triple sec already brought the sugar.
Steps
- Add the vodka, orange vodka and triple sec to a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Shake and pour into a highball glass.
- Add the pineapple juice, stir, and serve.
