Pink Pussycat

This Pink Pussycat is the Alizé version, and it is about as simple as a tropical drink gets. Two ounces of Alizé go into an ice-filled mug, pineapple juice fills it, and a splash of grenadine turns it pink.

Alizé is a French blend of cognac and passion fruit juice, so it brings both the base spirit and the tropical flavor in one bottle. Against a full mug of pineapple juice it reads as a fruit punch with a little warmth underneath, sweet, easy and not especially strong. The name has a few other recipes attached to it, usually gin or vodka with pineapple and grenadine, but the Alizé take is the fruitiest of the lot. The original directions stop mid-sentence, so we have filled in the obvious build.

Bartenders tip: Alizé Gold Passion is the original flavor and the one this recipe assumes, though Alizé Red Passion will push the color further toward pink. Use chilled pineapple juice and plenty of ice, since a beer mug holds a lot of juice to keep cold. Give it a gentle stir after the grenadine so the color comes out even rather than sitting at the bottom.
