Profile
The Pink Russian is a White Russian with a strawberry streak. Coffee liqueur and vodka are still in there, but a full shot of Tequila Rose, the pink strawberry cream liqueur, joins them and pulls the drink from coffee brown toward a dusty rose.
It sounds like an odd combination and works better than you would expect. Strawberry and coffee show up together in plenty of desserts, and the cream in the Tequila Rose bridges the two. The tequila in it is mild enough that you mostly get strawberries and cream, so the drink tastes like a mocha with a berry finish rather than anything harsh.
The original ingredient list asks for half an ounce of milk while the directions say to fill the glass, so we have set the milk at three ounces, which does fill a highball over ice.
Glass: Highball glass | Strength: Medium | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 3 minutes
Bartenders tip: Shake the spirits with ice rather than trying to shake the finished drink in the glass, then strain over fresh ice and add the milk. Half-and-half or light cream makes a richer version if you want it closer to dessert. Give the Tequila Rose bottle a shake before pouring, since the cream can settle. The drink is sweet enough on its own, and if anything a little extra vodka dries it out nicely.
Steps
- Shake the vodka, coffee liqueur and Tequila Rose with ice.
- Strain into a highball glass filled with ice.
- Top with the milk and stir briefly.
