Poison Apple

The Poison Apple is a simple, crisp apple shot with a fairy-tale name. Vodka and Apfelkorn, a German apple liqueur, are shaken cold and strained into a shot glass. It is clean, sweet and tart, with a fresh green apple flavor that tastes much more natural than most apple schnapps.

Apfelkorn is made from grain spirit and apple juice, which gives it a softer, juicier flavor than the neon-green sour apple liqueurs you often see. Mixed with vodka, it makes a smooth shot that goes down easy. Snow White never stood a chance.

Bartenders tip: Berentzen is the best-known Apfelkorn brand and is fairly easy to find. Serve it very cold, and garnish with a tiny slice of red apple on the rim for a nod to the name. If you cannot find Apfelkorn, a good apple schnapps works in a pinch.
