Profile
The Pink Daiquiri is a daiquiri with three dashes of grenadine in it. Rum, lime and sugar, shaken and served up, is the original and one of the best arguments in cocktail history for leaving things alone. The grenadine adds pomegranate sweetness and, more to the point, color.
Whether that is an improvement depends on your feelings about the daiquiri. It is a drink with nothing to hide behind, three ingredients in tension, and adding a fourth sweet element softens the balance the lime is working to hold. Three dashes is a small enough intervention that the drink survives it intact, which is presumably why the recipe stops there rather than pouring a quarter ounce.
Glass: Cocktail glass | Strength: Medium | Serves: 1 | Prep Time: 3 minutes
Bartenders tip: Fresh lime, always, and squeeze it the same day you use it. Bottled lime juice will ruin this faster than any other mistake available to you. Powdered sugar dissolves better than granulated in a cold shake, which is why the old recipes call for it, though simple syrup is easier and works just as well at about a half ounce. Chill the glass first. If the grenadine tastes like cough syrup rather than fruit, it is the grenadine and not the recipe, so find one made with real pomegranate.
